A deep brown diving watch with a strong 1950s look has just dropped.
It is Massena LAB’s take on the Vulcain Cricket Nautical.
It has redesigned, vintage-inspired hands and a brand new, Massena LAB black rubber strap.
Vulcain’s original Cricket Nautical was released in 1961 and featured an alarm that could be heard underwater.
In 1966, Swiss deep-sea diver Hannes Keller, who had helped develop the watch, wore a Cricket Nautical on a record-setting dive to a depth of almost 250m.
That dive was witnessed and validated by none other than diving legend Jacques Cousteau.
This new watch was created after Massena LAB imagined what the Cricket would have been like if it was made earlier, in the 1950s.
The dark brown dial was inspired by vintage tropical dials.
The hands are filled with lume that mirrors the color of vintage tritium.
The black rubber strap, designed by Massena LAB, is fitted with a Vulcain logo stainless steel buckle.
The double dial features a decompression table, which is revealed through an aperture on the dial. The watch is water-resistant to 300m.
The 42mm stainless steel case has a closed “triple caseback” that acts as a resonance chamber and allows for the alarm to be loud enough to be heard underwater, alerting the diver that they should start their ascent.
Powered by the manual-wound Cricket Alarm Calibre V10, with a reserve of 52 hours.
The Vulcain Nautical Legacy Massena LAB is a limited edition of 25 watches. $4950. massenalab.com
