Marloe looks to the stars with latest Astro watch

British watchmaker's new piece pays tribute to the success of Nasa's 25-year-old space telescope.

British indie Marloe Watch Company is celebrating the release of quarter of a century’s worth of space photographs taken from a NASA telescope.

The Chandra X-ray Observatory was launched on-board Space Shuttle Columbia in 1999.

After 25 years in orbit, NASA has released a trove of stunning images taken by the space telescope.

Marloe’s Astro has a case and dial that is directly inspired by space travel.

The square case with a round dial – or ‘squircle’ as Marloe calls it – evokes the pictures of earth shown on an old square TV during the Apollo space missions.

The 38mm square-cased watch comes in 64 different combinations.

Each is limited to 300 pieces, as part of Marloe’s commitment to small batches.

There are many different colours, and the Astro comes on either a steel bracelet, or a leather, rubber or fabric strap.

All are powered by a Japanese Miyota automatic movement with hacking mechanism and 40+ hour power reserve.

There is also a decent 100m of water-resistance.

British company Marloe was founded less than a decade ago and makes mechanical watches at very competitive prices.

The Astro range starts at £399 (around $400). marloewatchcompany.com
