Louis Vuitton has created table clocks in the form of hot air balloons that perfectly builds on the maison’s historic alignment with the golden age of travel and its more recent investment in haute horlogerie.
The French fashion house has a long-held association with hot air balloons, which conjure up images of Victorian-era high society embracing and experimenting with the new form of travel and recreation.
Montgolfière Aéro clocks use hand-wound mechanical movements made by L’Epée that drive hours and minutes rings positioned below balloons made from brass and red glass.
A Louis Vuitton monogram flower is used as a pointer to the time display rings and the basket below the balloon is made in the form of a classic Louis Vuitton travel trunk.
A second version of the clock has the balloon made from a copper alloy with precious wood details and is decorated with 1,420 round diamonds totalling around 55.8 carats.
The brass and red class edition is retailing for $61,500 while the diamond-studded piece is price on application.
