Longines has launched two new steel and gold versions of its Spirit Flyback chronograph.
They have a steel case with a cap, crown and chronograph pushers in 18k yellow or rose gold.
The yellow gold version has a green dial, while the rose gold version has a brown dial.
These new models join previously launched Flybacks with steel or titanium cases.
The watch has the ceramic bezel that is characteristic of the chronograph line that was launched last year.
It has the COSC-certified calibre L791.4 automatic chronograph movement with a 68-hour power reserve.
The movement is visible through a sapphire caseback and the gold oscillating weight is engraved with the Longines winged hourglass on a globe – the Spirit collection’s emblem.
Longines patented the flyback chronograph in the 1930s, having first equipped a watch with the function in the previous decade.
In that era of taking to the skies, the complication was very useful for navigation, because it allowed timing of successive stages of a flight.
The Spirit Flyback has a running seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, a central chronograph seconds hand and a 30-minute chrono timer at 3 o’clock.
The yellow or rose gold hands and numerals are coated with Superluminova for enhanced legibility.
The watch is water resistant to 100m and comes on a leather strap in either blue or green to match the dial.
