Golden Piaget Polo Date dazzles in rainbow-colored gems

Forty gems decorate the candy colored bezel.

The Piaget Polo Date Rainbow has landed in a 36mm rose gold case and patterned mother of pearl dial.

The Polo Date 36mm in rose gold is usually set with brilliant-cut diamonds, and this rainbow special edition is part of Piaget’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The dial is engraved with horizontal lines in a technique that Piaget calls Décor Palace.

We have seen this patterning on gold, but this is the first time Piaget has used it on mother of pearl.

The bezel and indices together carry just under three carats of the following trapeze-cut stones: 17 sapphires, five rubies, six citrines, six tsavorite garnets and six spessartite garnets.

The bezel and index setting takes seven hours, which Piaget says results in the “highest level of visual harmony in the bezel and the indices”.

The sapphire crystal caseback shows Piaget’s 500P1 automatic movement that is 3.63mm thick and has a 40-hour power reserve.

This is one of a number of pieces released in celebration of Piaget’s 150th birthday.

In 1874, watchmaker Georges-Edouard Piaget opened a workshop in the Swiss Jura village of La Côte-aux-Fées.

In the 1950s, in the hands of the founder’s grandson Valentin Piaget, the brand developed the ultra-thin movements that are a company signature today.

The Polo can be bought in different case sizes, in gold or precious metal, with or without precious stones. There is even a chronograph.
