Monaco Legend Group (MLG) has appointed Corrado Mattarelli as deputy chairman of its watch department, marking a new chapter for both the auction house and the highly-respected veteran watch expert.
Monaco Legend Group, founded in 2015, has rapidly established itself as a key player in the rare and collectible timepiece market.
Its biannual “Exclusive Timepieces” auctions and thriving private sales department have established MLG as a top tier player in exceptional and rare watches.
Mr Mattarelli is no stranger to the world of haute horlogerie. With over three decades of experience in the vintage watch sector, he has built a reputation that resonates with collectors, dealers, and auction houses worldwide.
His Rome-based shop, Only Vintage, has been responsible for trading some of the most exquisite Rolex and Patek Philippe timepieces in existence.
Mr Mattarelli’s approach to watchmaking is characterised by an unwavering commitment to quality and rarity.
His expertise extends beyond mere trading; he is a curator of important international collections and a collaborator with global dealers.
His passion for horology is evident in his own words: “It has been 30 years since I bought my first watch and I still get excited every time. Is there anything better than turning a passion into work?”
The appointment to MLG’s leadership team is more than just a new role. It represents a strategic move for both parties with Mr Mattarelli acquiring a substantial share in MLG, demonstrating his commitment to the group’s future.
This alliance brings together Mr Mattarelli’s vast experience and MLG’s established platform, potentially reshaping the landscape of high-end watch auctions.
Davide Parmegiani, co-chairman of MLG’s watch department, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, highlighting Mattarelli’s unparalleled depth of knowledge and infectious passion for timepieces.
Claude Cohen, co-chairman auctioneer, emphasised how Mr Mattarelli’s expertise and international acclaim will enhance MLG’s capabilities in the global watch market.
For his part, Mr Mattarelli views this new role as an exciting challenge, eager to leverage his experience to propel MLG to new heights in the international watch arena.
His Only Vintage dealership, which expanded from Rome to Monaco in 2016, has been a significant presence at major international watch fairs and auctions, further underlining his influence in the community.
While the dual role of watch dealer and auctioneer owner presents potential conflicts of interest, MLG assures WatchPro that stringent measures are in place to mitigate these risks.
