Citizen has been quietly nudging its portfolio into higher price points in recent years through the use of premium materials such as titanium and ceramic, sophisticated in-house mechanical movements, creative dials and artisanal finishing.
Now the business is formalizing its march upmarket by creating Citizen Premier as a home to its more exclusive luxury timepieces that draw on over 100 years of innovation, style and craftsmanship. First into the Premier league are the Series8 and Attesa collections.
“Citizen Premier represents the pinnacle of watchmaking, pushing boundaries in movement technology, materials, dial craftsmanship, and design. Each collection within this category strikes the perfect balance between technological excellence and refined aesthetics, offering a distinct expression of modern luxury,” the company describes.
Series8 made its American debut in 2023 and expanded in 2024 as a family of luxury automatic timepieces with low four-figure price tags.
The Attesa collection represents the highest level of Citizen’s mastery of Super Titanium and light-powered Eco-Drive performance, innovation and style.
“At Citizen, we have spent more than a century perfecting the art of timekeeping,” says Jeffrey Cohen, president of Citizen Watch America. “Citizen Premier is the culmination of that journey — melding our heritage with modern innovation to offer a truly refined luxury experience.”
Citizen’s March launches fit into the Premier category. First, two Attesa watches made from Super Titanium and given, for the first time in the collection’s history, a ceramic bezel.
Secondly, a new Series8 831 with an ice blue geometrically-patterned dial. It is made in a limited edition run of 1,800 pieces. Third, the Series8 890 line added a steel sports watch with a textured green dial, available now for $1,395.
The Series8 880 GMT collection also saw an expansion earlier this year with a new rose- and gold-tone stainless steel offering with a 41mm case, black and green-tone bi-directional bezel and black geometric dial for $1,595.
All 2025 novelties build on the success of 2024 Attesa and Series8 watches, which are also inducted into the Citizen Premier category, including the Series8 890 Automatics with magnetic-resistant movements in sophisticated five-piece steel octagonal cases and bezels.
The non-limited 42.6mm x 11.7mm watches have the same bold checkered dial pattern, inspired by the Tokyo skyline at night, that was first seen on the dials of Citizen’s 2023 Series 8 watches.
Along with this pair of Series8 three-handers with date, Citizen launched a special edition, limited in production to 1,700 pieces, that has the same steel-on-steel case and integrated bracelet as the core collection editions, but this time with a copper-pink dial — inspired by Japan’s cherry blossom — with the same geometric pattern used in this year’s ice blue model, whose dial is said to glitter and reflect light like the surface of a calm sea on a sunny day.
In common with earlier Series8 watches, the new edition is powered by a Citizen Watch Company’s in-house Cal. 9051 mechanical movement with enhanced magnetic resistance and daily accuracy of -10 to +20 seconds.
The movement can be seen in action via an exhibition case back. The new Series 8 831 is retailing now for $1,095.
Citizen Premier’s Attesa line is enhanced with two Super Titanium watches that have the precision of quartz movements, the convenience of ECO-Drive solar charging and includes Satellite Wave GPS, which receives radio pings that keep them running to perfect accuracy and adjusts them to local time when they arrive in a new country.
Additional features include a simple-to-use world time function, a 1/20 Second Chronograph light level indicator for charging, power reserve indicator and a perpetual calendar.
The use of Super Titanium — treated either with clear Duratect titanium carbide or black Duratect DLC — increases the price to $1,995.
Citizen made its first titanium watch in 1970 and has continued to drive innovation with the development of proprietary treatments of the material.
The titanium innovation championed by the brand for the past 55 years will also be on display later this year with the release of even further technological advancements and developments.
Currently, its Super Titanium material is helping a Japanese space exploration firm make super light and tough parts for vehicles designed to land on the moon as part of Hakuto-R missions.
