Citizen writes second chapter in its moonwatch story

Blackened titanium watches are part of Citizen's ongoing partnership with Japan's ispace missions to the moon.

Citizen has released three new watches in collaboration with its Japanese partner ispace, which is attempting to fly “to the moon and beyond”.

It is the second set of Attesa models aligned with the lunar program following on from another trio of Attessa limited editions launched earlier this year.

ispace has not yet managed a moon landing, but has traveled further than any other privately funded spacecraft during an expedition last year.

The Japanese mission has a lunar exploration project called Hakuto-R, which made its first attempt to reach the moon in 2023.

Another mission is being planned for the end of this year.

Citizen’s new trio of Attesa watches were made in partnership with ispace and take the name Hakuto-R.

They feature titanium case and bracelets with the middle links made from recrystallised titanium, giving unique crystal patterns so that no two watches are the same.

These mysterious patterns, Citizen says, “echo the endless black vastness of outer space”.

The monochromatic dials also have three-dimensional black crystal patterns accented by little black details that give a multi-layered and shaded look.

The three new watches all feature versions of Citizen’s light-powered Eco-Drive movement, either radio controlled or GPS controlled, according to the model.

They all have the Hakuto-R logo engraved on the caseback and prices start at $1875.
