Citizen soars to new heights with the launch of its hugely sophisticated Promaster Sky U830
Citizen makes a technological take-off with its new evolution of its Promaster collection. Introducing the Sky U830, which is now fusing classic pilot watch aesthetics with the cutting-edge Caliber U830 movement and an advanced Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) display.
This particular type of LCD technology is known for its ultra-low power consumption and excellent visibility, ideal for a collection that prides itself on being the up-to-the-minute tool watch for modern adventurers.
Powered by Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive technology, the display can show you a world time, chronograph and also has alarm functions all packaged up in a sleek aviation-inspired case.
If you want to keep an eye on the power generated by the Eco-Drive technology, there is the light level indicator number 2, which now has improved visibility and can display up to seven days of power-generation history. These details are indicated on the digital display in an intuitive way, making it easy to remember when to recharge.
The MIP display is a part of the switch for Citizen’s latest Caliber U830 movement. As well as having higher resolution, an MIP opens the dial to new possibilities for displaying more detailed information and offer other functional upgrades like the ability to set multiple alarms for different times and days.
There are three 43mm-cased versions in stainless steel – one with a black dial, one blue and one entirely in black with a black finish on the case and bracelet. All three have the new CQ caliber, whose whizzy new MIP display allows for quick access to all the functions, with a running chronograph directly in-screen.
It has three sub dials, unusually at the 12 o’clock position, with one consistently showing UTC time – something that is a tradition in pilot’s watches.
There is a slide-rule bezel, again something found on pilot’s watches, and the lugs are inspired by aircraft wings. It is a boldly designed watch, that will take you to where no man has gone before. Or maybe just to the pub.
