Citizen expands Nature collection with paper-dialed pieces

New watches have translucent dials made from Japan’s traditional washi paper

Citizen has launched two new watches inspired by Japanese nature.

The new pieces are part of the brand’s Iconic Nature Collection.

They have Eco-Drive movements and the dials are made from Tosa Washi paper.

Tosa Washi is the traditional fibrous paper used to make room dividers in Japan.

The paper allows light to pass through to the movement of the watch.

There are two colors, one inspired by the wind, the other by the moon, Citizen says.

The blue-ish model, AQ4100-65H has patterns meant to portray the “natural ripples which the wind inscribes in the sands of the deserts and dunes”.

The case and bracelet are titanium, treated with Duratect to give a silver colour.

The other model, AQ4106-18X, has a brown dial that evokes the “gentle light of the half- hidden moon on a misty night”.

The brown watch has a case treated with dark-toned Duratect and the strap is tanned leather.

The case diameter is 38.3mm and it is made from Citizen’s proprietary Supertitanium 3.

The Eco-Drive movement is powered by light and can run for 18 months on a full charge.

Prices start at $4100 citizenwatch.com
