Star-gazing needn’t require a telescope, or even a good pair of glasses when it comes to Christopher Ward’s British Watchmakers’ Day offering, the C1 Moonphase ‘Mission to Maidenhead’.
Limited to just 25 individually numbered pieces, the brand pays tribute to both British horology and space exploration, with all profits to be donated to The Alliance of British Watch and Clockmakers.
Housed in Christopher Ward’s new 37mm Light-Catcher stainless steel case, the C1 Moonphase features an all-aventurine dial, characterised by a Globolight moonphase display, made from a cutting-edge blend of ceramic and Super-LumiNova.
The three-colour, photorealistic moon now includes a miniature astronaut, hand-drawn by CW’s Senior Designer Will Brackfield, proudly flying the Union Jack as if being viewed from the passing window of an Apollo spacecraft.
This tiny but meaningful detail marks the 25th astronaut on the moon, reflecting the limited production of just 25 pieces.
At the heart of the watch is the in-house JJ04 module, built on the Sellita SW220-1 base caliber. This movement offers out-of-this-world accuracy, tracking the lunar cycle for 128 years if kept wound.
Operating at 28,000 vph (4Hz) with a 38-hour power reserve, the JJ04 module ensures smooth and precise movement, making it one of the most refined moonphase complications available today.
The Elaboré-finished movement showcases a twin flag pattern over a ‘Colimaçoné’ rotor, adding a touch of refinement to the caseback.
Available on a Italian leather strap for £2,395 or the Consort bracelet for £2,530, the Mission to Maidenhead will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis at Christopher Ward’s booth at British Watchmakers’ Day, with 12 pieces available in the morning session and 13 in the afternoon.
