Breguet unveils pair of platinum and ‘Grand Feu’ enamel designs

New watch set features “a face as black as night”

Breguet has revealed a striking new pair of additions to its Classique line of watches.

The Classique 5177 and Classique 7787 feature platinum and “Grand Feu” enamel, across a jet-black dial.

The use of platinum reflects the classic nobility of “the metal of kings”, which was discovered on the South American continent in the latter half of the 18th century and experienced a subsequent boom in Europe.

“Grand Feu” enamel was originally reserved for haute horology pieces and exclusive models, as a watchmaking tool to protect the discs of dials which often fell victim to natural light and dust particles.

The latest designs also boast tried-and-tested automatic movements, with the manufacture calibres 777 Q and 591 DRL.

The 777 Q calibre features a movement with a standard frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, assembled from 237 components.

Its rhodium-plated 18-carat gold oscillating weight is decorated with a hand-engraved “starry mosaic” motif and an exclusive design with the words “Breguet special edition” engraved on the weight.

The 591 DRL calibre movement, clocked at 4Hz and comprising 221 components, delivers 38 hours of power reserve once would by its rhodium-plated 22-carat gold rotor.

It also features a pinion on the moon-phase disc, enabling it to offer a realistic display of the lunar cycle.
