Inspired by founder Jean-Claude Biver’s time spent in the namesake country and his respect for its watch collectors, Biver introduces a new Automatique Japan Edition in collaboration with watch boutique The Hour Glass Japan.
This exclusive release features two timepieces – one with a black hard-fired enamel dial encased in 18K rose gold and the other with a white enamel dial housed in platinum.
The Automatique Japan Edition highlights the painstaking craftsmanship that goes into enamel dial creation. Produced by Switzerland’s Les Émailleurs de la Cité, each dial undergoes multiple firings at temperatures approaching 800°C, layering enamel powder over a base of either 22K rose gold or 18K white gold. This demanding process takes over 10 hours per dial, followed by an additional six hours of hand polishing to achieve a flawless, mirror-like finish.
Applied gold hour markers add further complexity, requiring extreme precision to avoid cracks while seamlessly integrating with the enamel.
Visible through a display caseback, Biver equips the Automatique Japan Edition with the in-house Caliber JCB-003 – a highly refined automatic movement that features a 22K gold micro-rotor, stop-seconds, and a zero-reset mechanism to allow for exact time-setting while maximizing chronometric performance.
Every component here is meticulously decorated with circular graining, satin finishing, black polishing, and guilloché, reflecting the brand’s commitment to traditional craftsmanship, as well as the Japanese watch collectors’ pursuit of perfection.
Both models feature a 39mm case, 80-meter water resistance, and power reserve of 65 hours.
The Platinum with White Enamel Dial is priced at 92,000 CHF, while the Rose Gold with Black Enamel Dial is available for 89,000 CHF.
Both models are limited in production due to their complexity and are available solely through The Hour Glass Japan.
