Belfast-based brand Nomadic has released a trio of new watches riffing on Northern Ireland’s rich maritime background.
In a world where we owe so much to the Swiss, Nomadic has decided to play strongly on the fact that it is based in a Northern Irish city that was once one of the biggest ship builders in the world.
Belfast’s old Harland and Wolff shipyard was where work began on the world’s most infamous ship in early 1909.
Titanic first went to sea on May 31 1911, and Nomadic has chosen the last day of May for the launch of its new watches.
The Prestige Collection is an extension to the flagship Maraí 401 diving watch line.
Maraí – in line with Nomadic’s custom of promoting local features – is a Gaelic word that means ‘sea farer’.
The company name in turn comes from the SS Nomadic, a passenger tender that was employed to ferry passengers to the Titanic, and now survives as the last remaining ship from White Star Line, the defunct company that made the famous liners.
The Maraí 401 is classic diving watch design with a 40mm case, a Sellita automatic movement, and 200m water resistance.
The Prestige Collection adds a range of two-tone bracelets, dial and bezel combos.
The five new colors are: Classic Black and Gold; Crimson Dawn; Deep Ocean Blue, Emerald Abyss; and Pitch Black.
The steel bracelets all feature 18K Gold PVD plating and a clasp allowing for micro adjustments.
The Maraí 401 is available with or without a date, and additional rubber and fabric straps are available as an option.
Nomadic was founded in 2021 by Peter McAuley, a Northern Irish businessman with a background in engineering.
