The zeitgeist calls for vintage, and Amida answered. The Swiss brand returns from dormancy with a futuristic driver’s watch that blends 1970s vision with cutting-edge Swiss mechanics.
Limited to just 150 pieces, the Digitrend Open Sapphire marks the renaissance of the brand, nearly 50 years after the legendary timepiece first made an appearance at Basel Fair in 1976.
The original model was spotlighted for its futuristic side-reading jump-hour display, and the the new version takes this even forward-thinking approach even further, featuring a clear sapphire top case that exposes the entire time-display module.
Here we’re offered full visibility of the movement in action courtesy of a stainless steel case that uses two-thirds sapphire crystal, cut via the Kyropoulos method and polished for over 20 hours to optical standards.
These completely exposed mechanics feature Geneva stripes, anglage, and perlage finishing, offering full visibility of the movement in action.
Powered by a Swiss automatic Soprod Newton P092 caliber that’s enhanced by an in-house developed module with nine components, the 23-jewel movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a 44-hour power reserve.
A standout feature is its Light Reflective Display (LRD) – a prism system that projects the hour and minute digits on the side of the case, like a periscope. Originally patented in 1973, this is the technology that creates the signature side readout.
Measuring 39.6mm wide and 16mm thick, the watch is water-resistant to 50 meters and comes with a charcoal Alcantara strap and optional metal bracelet.
Priced at CHF 4,500 (plus CHF 350 for the metal bracelet), it will be available from June 19 through Amida’s website and select retailers including Chronopassion (Paris) and The Limited Edition (UK).
