After over 15 years in their designing role at Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches, couple Daniël and Maria Reintjes are leaving their roles.
Under their leadership, they have helped to establish the brand as a unique and innovative name within horology, becoming the only watch atelier in the world to design and produce exclusive, handmade astronomical watches.
While their official roles stared in 2009, Daniël and Maria Reintjes first worked with Christiaan van der Klaauw in 1999, when they tasked the watchmaker to create a watch range for their lifestyle brand Dark Rush.
Following years of collaboration, 2009 saw van der Klaauw’s retirement, entrusting the atelier to Daniël and Maria.
The couple successfully repositioned the brand with a sole focus on astronomical watches, spearheaded by the CVDK Real Moon series which featured the most accurate 3D moon phase in the world.
Other noteworthy successes include the invention of a distinctive signature dial material: the now iconic Aventurine Glass dials, and being recognized as an Haute Horlogerie atelier of the respected Fondation Haute Horlogerie in 2016.
In 2021 Daniël and Maria received the ultimate acknowledgements in watchmaking, being awarded the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, before being awarded the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
The pair pass the torch to Pim Koeslag and the rest of the talented CVDK team.
