Ressence unveils new Type 9

The brand’s smallest watch to date expands Ressence’s unique approach

Ressence’s unique oil-filled approach to time-telling has been expanded to include the brand’s smallest watch so far.

Since we saw the first prototypes in 2010, Ressence has played with the original idea to great effect.

Belgian founder and designer Benoît Mintiens has offered subtle evolutions of the idea ever since.

Two years ago, Ressence came out with the Type 8, a smaller time-only watch.

The new Type 9 picks up that idea and takes it further.

It has a 39mm polished titanium case and for the first time the minute indicator is placed outside the dial on the fixed bezel, making it appear even more compact.

It has a patented ROCS 9 module that is powered by a base ETA automatic movement with a 36-hour reserve.

There are two versions, one with a grey dial, the other has a blue-green that Ressence calls Aqua.

“The Type 9 is the smallest watch we can produce to this day, considering the size of the components,” Mintiens said. “From a distance, it looks very classical but up close it reveals itself as much more sophisticated. It is a modern fit for every wrist.”

The Ressence Type 9 costs CHF 12,500 plus tax.
