Orient Star is definitely staying true to its name. The latest version of the M42 Diver pays tribute to one of the brightest lights in the night sky.
It is the latest in a line of star-worshipping watches from the Japanese brand.
The codename M42 refers to Messier 42, better known as the Orion Nebula – a star cluster that is visible to the naked eye.
The new M42 Diver 1964 is a limited edition made to commemorate 60 years since Orient’s diving watch debut.
The look pays tribute to an Orient watch from 1964, but it comes with a titanium case and modern levels of water-resistance.
The 41mm titanium case and bracelet make the 60th anniversary model 35 percent lighter than the steel equivalent.
The watch is SCUBA-friendly, meeting the ISO 6425 standard for diving watches.
A screw-down crown and screw-in case-back help towards water resistance of 200 metres.
It has a dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.
The in-house automatic movement has a 50-hour power reserve, marked out by a satisfying little indicator at 12 o’clock.
It is a limited edition of 365 pieces and the anniversary model comes engraved with the issue number on the case back for around $1,300.
