Ferregamo is adding fine jewelry timepieces to its watch portfolio with the creation of gem-set bracelets that unveil hidden watch faces.
The Ferragamo Secret watches extend a lineage of hidden watches from historic jewelers that can be traced back to the days before wristwatches.
A time when, according to some horological historians, it was considered beneath the dignity of ladies to wear pocket watches so they concealed their timepieces within their jewelry.
Ferragamo’s creative director Maximilian Davis set out to create watches with artisanal charm, technical innovation and aesthetic sophistication, and arrived at a family of five-link bracelets in a range of gold, bi-color and polished steel finishes adorned with either 32 diamonds with square-cut blue sapphires, emeralds, or rubies; or a version with 188 diamonds.
All models have a butterfly buckle with Ferragamo logo.
The bracelet’s watch face is hidden under a top panel. There is a choice of dials in mother of pearl, lapis lazuli, malachite, or red agate.
“Ferragamo Secret is a one-of-a-kind timepiece that strikes an impeccable balance between elegance and precision”, says Mr Davis. “It’s an object of desire, exciting and enigmatic, concealing its true nature like a rare and precious jewellery piece.”
The collection uses time-only quartz movements made in Switzerland by Ronda. They are on sale now at Ferragamo.com and select retailers priced from $5,200 to $9,400.
