‘All Units’ watch draws on military background of Ollech & Wajs

New piece nods to watches used by US troops in Vietnam.

Ollech & Wajs traces its history back to a small watch shop in Zurich in the mid-1950s.

But it was a watch from the following decade that made the company’s name.

The OW Caribbean 1000 Precision put them on the map with a jaw-dropping 1000m water-resistance.

The company went on to deliver thousands of watches to US soldiers in Vietnam.

The modern company pays tribute to this history and its latest watch is a stripped back version of an earlier piece.

The new OW M-52 AU (All Units) has a 39.5mm stainless steel case and a Soprod P024 automatic movement.

The case has a brushed finish to avoid glare – should you find yourself in a combat zone.

The 12-hour world timer bezel and red-numbered date are also nods to the Vietnam era Ollech & Wajs watches.

The M-52 AU is based on the M-52B ‘Air Force’ (AF) that was released earlier this year to mark the 70th anniversary of the B-52 Stratofortress.

The name All Units comes from a watch made for Airborne troops in the Vietnam era.

The Ollech & Wajs M-52 AU costs CHF 1356 on a gray nylon band, with other strap options available.
