Frederique Constant has introduced a new watch inspired by classic Riva motorboats.
The famous wooden-hulled Riva Aquarama ferried the likes of Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren around the Riviera in the 1960s, and was immortalised in movies from the Italian Job to Goldeneye.
The new watch is an addition to Frederique Constant’s Classics Runabout collection, made in collaboration with the Riva Historical Society – a non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving the legacy of the boats.
The new watch comes in either a 42mm or 36mm case size and the electric blue colouring is described as ‘halfway between turquoise and navy blue’.
This is the latest in a series of limited edition watches made in partnership with the Riva Historical Society, a relationship that began in 2013.
It is powered by the Sellita-based FC-303 automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve. It is water resistant to 50 metres.
Geneva based Frederique Constant was founded in 1988 by Dutch couple Aletta and Peter Stas. Since 2016 it has been part of Japan’s Citizen group.
Limited to 1,888 pieces each, it comes in a presentation box with a miniature replica of a Riva alongside the watch.
