Cartier Crash and F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Resonance headline Bonhams Fine Watches sale

Rolex Yacht-Master ‘Tutti Frutti’ and Jacob & Co. tourbillon also among the highlights.

Bonhams has revealed details of the exotic watches going under the hammer at the Fine Watches sale in London on 19 June.

A Rolex Yacht-Master ‘Tutti Frutti’, reference 116695SATS, is among the lots.

Elton John is one known devotee of the 18ct rose gold watch with a rotating bezel set with multi-coloured sapphires, tsavorites and diamonds. Bonhams offers this example, from circa 2019, with an estimate of £70,000-90,000.

Another stand-out is a bejewelled Jacob & Co. Tourbillon watch, believed to be one of just 18 made.

American music mogul DJ Khaled is among the famous devotees of this watch.

Khaled’s Jacob & Co. Tourbillon is rumoured to have cost several million dollars. This example from circa 2010, is offered with an estimate of just £20,000-30,000.

F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Resonance

Perhaps the biggest hitter of all in this auction is an F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Resonance timepiece, circa 2008.

First launched in 2000 by François Paul Journe, the watch draws inspiration from Christiaan Huygens, a Dutch mathematician who observed two pendulum clocks swinging at the same time.  

The platinum watch has two separate dials for the hours and minutes, with the opposing dials also capable of displaying different time zones. It has an estimate of £120,000-180,000.

 “The Fine Watches sale includes sought after timepieces from across the decades highlighting exceptional craftsmanship including an important Art Deco Cartier diamond wristwatch from 1928 to a Cartier Crash,” said Jonathan Darracott, Bonhams Global Head of Watches.

He added: “Another standout lot is a very rare Rolex GMT-Master ‘Red Writing’, reference 6542 with its original bakelite bezel, that is a prize for any connoisseur of the classic GMT. Additionally, the sale presents an exciting 1970s Heuer Carrera formerly the property of Terence Regan who was renowned in the world of F1. Fine Watches offers a curated collection of best-in-class examples in the world of horology for the seasoned collector”.

A rare Rolex GMT-Master ‘Red Writing’, reference 6542, circa 1955. The stainless steel automatic dual time calendar wristwatch features an original bakelite bezel and has an estimate of £120,000-180,000.

Vacheron & Constantin Cioccolatone, reference 4737.

A Vacheron & Constantin Cioccolatone, reference 4737, circa 1950. The rare and 18K gold manual wind wristwatch has an estimate of £8,000-12,000.

Rolex COMEX Submariner, reference 5514.

A Rolex COMEX Submariner, reference 5514, circa 1975. The 5514 is one of the rarest Rolex Submariner models and the only one with a helium valve. Offered on behalf of the family of the original owner with an estimate of £40,000-60,000.
