While the majority of Europe is revelling in sleepy summer dormancy, Glashütte Original looks stateside to inject some heatwave hedonism into its horological offering, unveiling the Seventies ‘X’ Chronograph.
A bold limited-edition timepiece available exclusively in North America, it celebrates 10 years of the renowned Seventies line, and is imbued with all the retro inspirations and laid-back charm of American leisure culture you’d expect of the vibrant Floridian beaches where the brand shot its campaign.
Powered by the hand-finished Caliber 37-02 automatic movement, the chronograph delivers exceptional reliability with a 70-hour power reserve, column-wheel flyback function, and Panorama Date. Other functions include a stop-second, 30-minute counter, 12-hour totalizer, and a power reserve display subtly integrated into the small seconds subdial.
The 40 x 40 mm stainless steel case is both polished and satin-brushed, while a matte white lacquer dial features two black galvanized subdials with vinyl-style detailing.
The characteristic three-quarter plate, balance cock and skeletonized rotor are adorned with the refined Glashütte stripe finish.
Bold white indices, a red 10-minute marker, and a red stop-second hand add striking accents, and each watch comes with both a stainless steel bracelet and a black rubber strap – beach to bar brief, complete.
Limited to just 100 pieces and available in North American authorized dealers only, the regionally exclusive watch marks a bold shift in aesthetic for Glashütte and a clear move in the direction of harnessing its US market.
