Oris’s new Sixty-Five blows every other diving chronograph out of Lac Neuchâtel

A new Sixty-Five Divers Chronograph arrives in an ocean-green hue

A suave ocean-green iteration of Oris’s evergreen Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph marry the verdant foothills of the Jura with the lakes below

At its heart, the new watch remains the same glorious neo-vintage design that has been echoing the spirit of the everyman’s first everyday, evergreen dive watch of 1965 since the democratic watchmaker of Switzerland breathed new life into it more than a decade ago.

Note the vintage pump chronograph pushers, condensed numerals and shield-shaped index at 12 o’clock. Now, this new 40mm model takes the story forward with a stylish, calming blend of a sunray silver grey dial and green dial and bezel detailing.

The colors are lifted from nature, particularly the deep ocean green, a shade that also picks up on the oaky green tones of the forested hills that surround Oris’s Hölstein factory, which has proved the biggest local employer throughout its sprawling campus of Art Nouveau industrial buildings since 1904.

Behind the watch’s retro façade is a contemporary mechanical chronograph movement, Oris Caliber 771, based on Sellita’s ETA Valjoux 7750 clone, still (though not visible) adorned by Oris’s famed red winding rotor.

As well as providing running-second and chronograph 30-minute subdial indications, it also delivers an upped 62-hour power reserve on the Seventies generic.
