Over the weekend, motoring enthusiasts gathered in the Austrian Alps on the edge of icy Lake Zell for the The F.A.T. Ice Race – a high-speed event that is revived by Ferdi Porsche, the great-grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, after a 45-year hiatus.
Celebrating the race’s return, Porsche Design continues to push engineering boundaries with the release of the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition.
This limited-edition timepiece, available in just 136 pieces, honors the legendary Porsche 962 race car and the brand’s longstanding connection to motorsports.
For the first time, Porsche Design introduces an entirely white dial coated in Super-LumiNova material, offering optimal readability in both light and darkness.
The Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition builds on Porsche Design’s watchmaking prowess, first seen with the Chronograph I in 1972. As the world’s first all-black chronograph, it set new standards in readability and aesthetic appeal, inspired by the Porsche 911 dashboard.
In this new iteration, Porsche Design flips the signature matte black dial to a radiant white, ensuring exceptional contrast and clarity, even in the dark. Luminous details reveal the silhouette of the Porsche 962, making this watch not only a functional timepiece but a tribute to automotive history.
This collaboration also highlights the brand’s commitment to motorsport. F.A.T. International – a group dedicated to reviving motorsport culture which revved onto the scene in the 1990s with the Porsche 962’s victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Now, Porsche Design has taken inspiration from this success to launch the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition, integrating innovative features such as the COSC-certified Porsche Design caliber WERK 01.240 with a flyback function for precise lap-time measurements.
Crafted from ultra-light titanium with a matte black titanium carbide coating, the watch echoes the Porsche 962’s aerodynamic design. It also comes with a white textile strap, a Velcro closure for comfort during high-performance events, and the exclusive “F.A.T. Mankei Strap” inspired by the race itself.
