In November WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2013, made up of 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.
Highly commended for the WatchPro Innovative Watch of the Year 2013 was the Zenith El Primero Lightweight.
In 2013, Zenith unveiled this new interpretation of the 2010 Striking 10th, which has been crafted with lightness in mind.
The El Primero Lightweight has been created by teaming a titanium and silicon movement with a sporty carbon case, in what the brand has called a new era for the El Primero calibre.
This featherweight watch refuses to compromise on sturdiness and packs a serious punch in terms of its capabilities, retaining the functionality of the Striking 10th but in an exciting new lighter package.
The manufacture has maintained the silicon double chronograph wheel, while adding a lever and an escape-wheel made from the same high-tech, light, antimagnetic material.
The result is a 25% lighter movement weighing just 15.45g, compared with 21.10g for a similar classic movement – lighter on the wrist but still a heavyweight of a watch.
