Earlier this year WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2012 – the 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.
Highly commended in the Limited Edition Watch of the Year category was the U-Boat U-51 Chimera B and B.
Wearing solid bronze on your wrist might give connotations of the Ancients but we’re sure that’s what U-Boat had in mind when it launched the B and B — Black and Bronze — timepiece at BaselWorld this year.
It wowed with its sheer size -— the case is 54.5mm including the crown protector — and brash use of materials. This is a rugged watch that needs a big personality to match it.
As with most Italian watches, style and substance have been rolled into one, and here the utmost attention to detail has been made with the bronze case naturally aged and its calf skin strap hand-made using techniques that have not changed since the 1800s.
Limited to just 300 pieces, the B and B is a solid watch that is hard to miss.
