Earlier this year WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2012 – the 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.
Now we are showcasing a watch a day that made the cut in 2012. Today celebrates Swarovski’s move into mechanical timepieces, a leap it made this year.
Highly Commended Mechanical Watch of the Year – Swarovski Piazza Grande Automatic
As a brand better known for crystal and jewellery, Swarovski might not be an obvious choice when it comes to mechanical watches but this year it did the double, launching both its first men’s timepiece collection and its first automatic watch.
The Piazza Grande easily ticks the boxes for consumers shopping for a fashion-led timepiece that is also a little more upmarket, meaning the Piazza Grande Automatic sits easily sitting alongside Tissot, TW Steel and Technomarine.
The watch has a 43mm stainless steel case with a sunray pattern dial and a contrasting electric-blue seconds hand. It houses a Swiss-made self-winding automatic movement with Côtes de Genève decoration on its rotor and Swarovski name engraved.
Details also include a black ceramic crown protector and an open caseback. An excellent mechanical debut from Swarovski.
