WATCHPRO ORIGINALS: Meistersinger’s John van Steen sees light at the end of the tunnel

Germany has the best record among every major European country for containing the Covid-19 outbreak, and is already reaping the benefits with relaxation of lock down measures.

One of the country’s most successful watch businesses, Meistersinger, has grappled with the downturn along with everybody else, but is starting to see light at the end of the tunnel as some of its key markets, particularly its home market, begin to open up.

It will be a long road to recovery, and sales this calendar year are likely to be around 30% lower than 2019, according to managing partner John van Steen.

In our WatchPro Originals interview, he speaks about how optimism and positivity have helped the company through the crisis, his loyalty to retail partners at a time when only ecommerce sales are possible, and the key watch launches this year that he hopes will attract customers back into shops later this year.
