Last year was a momentous one for Hamilton Jewelers, as it marked the completion of the multi-year refit of its flagship boutique in Princeton, New Jersey.
“This led to a significant uptick in foot traffic and transaction counts,” according to the company’s chief operating officer Andrew Siegel, and comes at a time when business is booming for the family-owned high street jeweler.
“The US watch industry is enjoying an amazing time right now,” says Andrew.
“Additionally, our markets [New Jersey and Florida] are experiencing significant growth, with an influx of new residents. Our new client acquisition in both markets has been significant, so developing relationships with these new residents has been a wonderful challenge.”
With a rich history (Hank’s grandfather acquired the business in 1927), it is a constant challenge for Hamilton Jewelers to retain traditional values while embracing modern techniques.
What keeps it grounded is the family’s belief in personal customer service.
“The independent retailer plays an irreplaceable role,” muses Andrew.
“Ownership presence in the community, succession planning, a commitment to service, and an overall commitment to excellence is typically the hallmark of a successful independent. This is difficult for chain operators to replicate.”
This partly explains why the company is so well-reviewed, with a 4.9 star average rating on Google Maps at both its Princeton and Palm Beach locations.
Although fiercely ambitious and passionate, both Hank and Andrew are appreciative that there is life beyond the world of horology, and they have passions outside of the business.
“My wife and I love to travel, especially to play golf,” says Hank.
The Siegels are also keen to give back where they can.
“We are proud that our family, and Hamilton, support more than one hundred Palm Beach County and central New Jersey community organizations each year,” says Andrew.
Such good work will only add to the legacy that this business has been shaping for nearly a century.
