WatchPro at SIHH: Roger Dubuis

Velvet by Massaro_Rita_3

The only brand to produce solely Poinçon de Genève-certified watches released just one men’s watch at SIHH with the focus clearly on its Velvet collection for women.

Roger Dubuis announced five variations of the Velvet, with the Velvet Black expanding on the brand’s interest in establishing methods of setting gemstones within materials other than precious metals.

Last year saw diamonds set in rubber, this year it was the turn of Brazilian paraiba stones set in carbon. Avant garde shoe designer Massaro was also called upon to help design a limited run of 88 pieces of the Velvet by Massaro, a watch set with 262 diamonds and a leather strap with signature twist.

But the brand reached the peak of its ostentatiousness with a high jewellery watch, limited to just eight pieces, that was one of the more expensive items on show at SIHH. The Velvet Ribbon is set with 813 diamonds totalling 52cts. Each piece is priced at CHF 1.2m (£817,500).
