Watches lifted during armed robbery in Blackburn

A number of expensive watches were stolen during an armed robbery of Humberstones Jewellers in Blackburn, at the end of last week.

A report in the Lancashire Telegraph said that during the hammer and gun raid, watches worth £100,000 were stolen from the jewellers on King William Street.

During the robbery, which took place on the afternoon of September 20, two men entered Humberstones Jewellers. One was armed with what the police say, appeared to be a black handgun.

The man threatened the staff and then, with the other man, proceeded to smash the cabinets with hammers.

According to the newspaper report, the men grabbed Rolex watches from the front window before making their escape in different directions.

The police also confirmed that a large quantity of high value jewellery was taken.

Detective inspector Mark Vaughton said: “Fortunately no one was injured but understandably everyone involved has been left extremely shaken by what can only be described as a terrifying ordeal." He added: “An investigation is underway and I would appeal to anybody that may have witnessed either the robbery itself or the offenders leaving the scene to contact police immediately.

“I would also appeal to anyone who may have seen anybody acting suspiciously in the area not only [on the afternoon the robbery took place] but in the days leading up to the robbery to come forward and speak with police – Any piece of information, no matter how small could be crucial to the investigation so please come forward if you think you can help.”

Anyone with any information should call Lancashire Police on 101.

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
