TAG scores with Manchester United treble winning timepiece

TAG Heuer has released a special edition timepiece to celebrate the anniversary of Manchester United’s treble winning 98/99 campaign.

The limited edition watch was presented in Shanghai where the team are as part of their pre-season tour.

Denis Irwin, one of the club’s most decorated players and part of the legendary team that won the Treble, presented the new commemorative timepiece together with Tahith Chong, Victor Lindelöf and Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Manchester United’s first team.

This comes as TAG Heuer and the club confirm that their partnership will be extended.

The renewed partnership will see the watch brand continue to serve as the team’s official timekeeper, a role TAG Heuer has filled since 2016.

Minna Philipson, TAG Heuer VP for brand & communications, commented: “TAG Heuer has always been involved in the world of sport and committed to improving performance with innovative timekeeping technology. Today, we are thrilled to continue this commitment and extend our partnership with Manchester United.”

Adding: “Our shared values of passion, emotion, commitment and absolute precision make TAG Heuer and Manchester United an excellent match, and, as we celebrate the club’s Treble 20 years ago – a remarkable milestone in its history – we also look ahead to a continued journey marked by perfect teamwork.”

The chronograph is equipped with the in-house Calibre Heuer 01 automatic movement, and features a black opaline dial with the logo of the club printed on the 9 o’clock counter.

Made from black PVD-coated stainless steel and featuring a black ceramic bezel, this watch has a beige central seconds hand and matching indexes, and is presented on a red leather and rubber strap with black stitching, a nod to the club’s famous colours.

The same red colour is found on the 60-second flange and the caseback, where the collection name and movement are also printed.

The sapphire crystal is decorated with the outline of a shield and “1999 – THE TREBLE – 20 YEARS” and “1 OF 99” written in beige.

Only 99 have been produced and will be available at selected TAG Heuer boutiques in the UK and China, on Chinese e-commerce platforms JD.com and T-Mall and on Manchester United’s online platform.
