Suunto challenge celebrates online partnership

Suunto has launched a running challenge to celebrate its new partnership with an online community of athletes.

The Suunto Sisu Challange invites members of the Strava global online network to run 40 miles with a 16-day period in May.

Suunto and Strava have entered into a partnership that sees the brand’s GPS watches become compatible with the Strava service, that allows members to share and compare their GPS-tracked activities with friends. As part of the deal Suunto products will now also be available through the Strava online shop.

The Suunto Sisu Challenge, inspired by the Finnish word for bravery and determination, invites Strava members to run 65km between May 16-June 1. Those completing the challenge will be given the opportunity to buy an Ambit2 R, Suunto’s runners PSG watch and receive a free Suunto heart rate belt as well as a three-month Strava premium membership.

Janne Kallio, head of digital marketing at Suunto, said: “This partnership between Suunto and Strava has been requested by Suunto fans and we are delighted to be able to offer this to running and cycling enthusiasts. It provides a great new added value for all Suunto owners and gives Strava members a new range of product options. I can’t wait to start racing with my Suunto Ambit2 in local Strava segments.”

Strava’s service has been made compatible with Suunto’s own online sports community, movescount.com allowing for automatic data transfer.

David Lorsch, Strava’s vice president of strategy and business development, said: “We are excited to partner with Suunto and welcome their community of athletes to Strava with the Suunto Sisu Challenge. Suunto’s watches give runners and cyclists everything they need to take full advantage of the motivational tools offered exclusively through Strava Premium membership.”
