Strong month for UK watch sales in September


The total value of watch sales in the UK rose 15.76% year on year in September, according to data released to WatchPro by GfK.

Both ends of the market seemed to perform well in September with watches priced at £1,000 or more showing sales growth by value of 22.64% and watches priced between £100 and £500 showing sales value growth of 23.44%. Watches priced between £500 and £1,000 also showed growth with sales up 6.31% while watches priced at less than £100 showed a decline of 6.94%.

Gent’s and ladies’ watches both showed growth by value in the month, with gents’ sales up 16.49% and sales of ladies’ watches up 17.13%. Unisex watches took a tumble in the month, falling 14.04%, and children’s watches also suffered with sales by value dropping 6.61%.


Ceramic and leather strap watches both performed well in September showing respective growth of 20.19% and 24.2% on the same month in 2012. Ceramic watch sales dropped in the month with the category showing sales value down 17.96% year on year.
