Squale refloats partnership with Italian Navy for 1,200 meter dive watch

Squale has only five retail partners in the United States today, but if the Swiss watchmaker’s success in Europe is a guide, the number of doors is likely to mushroom in the coming years.

The brand is particularly strong in Italy, thanks to a connection to the Italian Navy that goes back to the 1980s when Squale became the official watch supplier to the La Spezia Scuba Diving Group, which provides courses to the public and professionals.

Forty years on from that collaboration, the Italian Navy and Squale have renewed their partnership, this time in the form of a 300 piece limited edition watch made with input by the navy, particularly when it comes to indestructibility and reliability.

The Squale Master Marina Militare is water resistant to 1,200 meters, thanks to a reengineering with a helium valve and the addition of a thicker sapphire crystal.

The world famous submarine and diving equipment business Drass Galeazzi company carried out the water resistant tests in their laboratories and certified the resistance up to 120 ATM.

The 42mm watch is made from 316 L steel, which protects an automatic Sellita SW 200-1 movement with 38 hour power reserve.

Its caseback carries the Italian Navy coat of arms, depicting the four Maritime Republics, as well as the edition number of the limited series.

The Squale Master Marina Militare is on sale now for £1,320 (around $1,430).
