Seiko Watch of America has unveiled fresh versions of its Prospex Automatic Saturation Diver that are on sale exclusively in the United States.
Both adopt Japan’s ancient Seigaiha (ocean waves) pattern on blue or burgundy colored dials.
Layered concentric circles of Seigaiha first appeared in Japanese art in the sixth century and are commonly used in art, fabrics, ceramics and lacquer-ware.
Each arched wave is said to represent surges of good luck, peace and good fortune, as well as power and resilience.
There are just 500 each of the 44.3mm blue blue watch while the burgundy colored piece is unlimited.
The blue edition comes in a single piece steel case with black coating and is worn on a black silicon rubber strap.
It is on sale from this week for $3,300.
For the burgundy-dialed watch, Seiko has made it with a plain steel case and integrated bracelet.
It goes on sale in November for $3,300.
Both use Seiko’s Caliber 8L35 automatic movement based on the Grand Seiko caliber 9S55.
They are sold in a special collectors’ box with coordinating Seigaiha-pattern cuff-links.
