Rolex watches worth £400,000 stolen in 33 seconds

Glasgow retailer Eric N. Smith was robbed of £400,000 worth of Rolex watches in a speedy 33-second raid, according to a report on court hearings on the STV News website

The report explained that a jury at the High Court in Glasgow was shown CCTV footage of three masked men at the jewellers in Renfrewshire carrying out the raid. Alan Mitchell, 34, and Gary Mitchell, 20, deny robbing Eric N. Smith on April 13 and stealing a number of watches, while brandishing hammers and a machete at store staff and smashing display windows.

The prosecutor played a clip on court of the raid, which started at 2.29pm and finished at 2.30pm when three men ran out of the shop.
According to the STV News report, shop owner Yvonne Smith, 52, said that a man with a machete stood guard over her, her husband, five members of staff and some customers while two other men smashed a display window holding Rolex watches.

The court was informed that the watches ranged in price from £3,400 to £50,000 and that 38 were taken, worth £400,000. Other watches were damaged in the raid. The damage was estimated by Smith to be worth £210,000.

The trial continues.
