The leader of a gang that stole watches worth $6 million from several Southern California jewelers over the past three years has been sentenced to 55 years in federal prison.
Keith Walton, described as a senior member of the Inglewood Family Gangster Bloods from Los Angeles, organized daylight smash-and-grab armed robberies. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney in Los Angeles for crimes dating back to February 2016.
The court heard how a string of robberies for Rolex watches and other high end timepieces included a raid of Ben Bridge Jewelers in Thousand Oaks, in which 35 Rolexes were stolen.
Two months later the gang hit Westime in Malibu, taking watches worth about $1.42 million. Other stores were targeted across the Los Angeles region, prosecutors said.
A sentencing statement said Mr Walton, who is also known by the monikers “Green Eyes” and “Fly Guy,” “is likely the most dangerous, prolific, and incorrigible criminal who has ever appeared before the Court for sentencing”.
Mr Walton was one of five men convicted in a five-week trial.
