Phillips is primed to sell millions of dollars worth of Daytonas thanks to expert’s help

Phillips has revealed more about an auction to take place at Watches & Wonders, which will see a selection of vintage Daytonas go under the hammer with the help of ‘Mr Daytona’.

Watches & Wonders Miami is an event hosted by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) and the Miami Design District Associates (MDDA), which will offer discussions, viewings and seminars for watch collectors and enthusiasts alike from 16 – 19 February.

Now it’s been revealed that Pucci Papaleo, the author of the ‘The Ultimate Rolex Daytona,’ a 600-page publication that explores everything about Daytonas, and nicknamed Mr Daytona, will be responsible for curating a collection of watches to be shown at the Phillips auction held during the event.

“In addition to selecting and vetting each watch, Mr Papaleo and his team of professionals at Pucci Papaleo Editions will create a catalogue for Daytona Ultimatum auction.” explains Phillips.

Mr Papaleo will act as the curator for the collection of watches and among his choices of Rolexes to go under the hammer are a trio of 60’s and 70’s pieces.

The 1974 Pintabian Rolex is estimated to go for CHF 100,000 – 200,000, the Ricciardi Panda from 1969 for CHF 400,000 – 800,000 and the John Player Special Rolex from 1968 for CHF 500,000 – 1,000,000.

Mr Papaleo and his team have produced all of Phillips’ thematic catalogues, including Start-Stop-Reset: 88 Epic Stainless Steel Chronographs, last year’s Heuer Parade and Winning Icons sales.
