Omega unveils 2021 Speedmaster Moonwatch collection with Master Chronometer precision

It looks like Swatch Group will eschew a huge global jamboree in favor of frequent launches throughout this year, and is starting as it means to go on with the unveiling today of eight fresh Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch models.

The 2021 generation is predominately styled on the ST 105.012, which was worn by Apollo 11 astronauts on the moon in 1969 but uses a new Calibre 3861 automatic movement with Master Chronometer precision, performance and magnetic-resistance.

All watches come with Omega’s 5-year warranty.

“When updating a sacred timepiece like the Speedmaster Moonwatch, every detail must be true to its original spirit. This chronograph is recognized the world over, so we’ve approached its design with the most sincere respect, while taking its movement to the next level,” says Raynald Aeschlimann, president and CEO of Omega.

Small but important details to Speedmaster obsessives include the classic asymmetrical case, step dial, double bevel caseback, and the famous dot over 90 (DON) and a dot diagonal to 70 on the anodized aluminium bezel ring.

Each second on the dial is divided into three fractions in a nod to the accuracy of the Calibre 3861 movement.

The 42mm collection is offered in steel with an integrated five link bracelet that includes a new clasp with a polished Omega logo, or with a black leather or nylon strap.

There are also models made from Omega’s trademarked 18ct Canopus white gold or pink Sedna gold. Gold versions come on integrated precious metal bracelets or leather straps.

All models have exhibition case backs.

They go on sale this month with prices ranging from CHF 5,500 for steel on leather to CHF 41,900 for a full Sedna gold watch and bracelet.
