Omega must have been cursing the production chaos consuming the latest James Bond movie, robbing it of an opportunity to remind customers this year of its association with 007.
Proving it is not one to dwell on the negatives, the brand has come up with another special watch, this time a Seamaster Diver 300M to celebrate the 50th anniversary of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, which was released in 1969.
The 42mm stainless steel watch is limited to 7,007 pieces and features a black PVD on black ceramic dial with a spiral-brushed gun barrel design, instantly recognizable as the swirl from the opening sequence of Bond movies, and 9mm bullet head at the center.
18ct yellow gold is used for the hands, indexes and an engraved plate on the side of the watch displaying each unique limited edition number.
Dealers should steel themselves for requests for number 007.
The marker at 12 o’clock is inspired by the Bond family coat-of-arms and, on the 7th day of each month, the number 7 on the date window uses the same font as the 007 logo.
There is also a hidden 50 within the Super-LumiNova on the 10 o’clock index that only reveals itself in the dark.
Omega president and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann describes the watch as, “A fitting tribute to a classic Bond film and one of cinema’s most iconic characters. This extraordinary watch is elegant, full of surprises and sure to be extremely popular with collectors and fans of the character, due to its many Bond-related features.”
It comes with a black rubber strap or steel bracelet. A price has not yet been disclosed.
