Omega aims to catch a slice of the secondary market by certifying second hand watches


Omega has launched a certification and authentication service for vintage watches.

The initiative is being piloted in the United States where Omega boutiques in South Coast Plaza Mall, Costa Mesa, CA, and Fifth Avenue, New York will house experts qualified to check all timepieces and give initial assessments towards issuing Certificates of Authenticity.

The initiative is Omega’s first step toward better transparency in the vintage market, and will provide definitive validation from the company’s experts in Switzerland, the company says, although the service will only be offered for watches more than 30 years-old.


“Our ambition is to create more trust for Omega watches within the vintage and pre-owned sector and help to grow confidence for people who are new to the buying market. For the owners of the watches, it’s a way to add some official assurance when selling, and also add some value to their timepieces,” says Raynald Aeschlimann, president and CEO of Omega.

To get a certificate, owners will have to either present their vintage timepiece directly at Omega’s HQ in Switzerland, or to a participating Omega Boutique in their country.

The service will cost CHF 800 (around $800).
