Nixon on a mission to attract thrill-seekers to its smartwatch

Californian sports watch brand Nixon will unveil a 10-ATM water resistant smartwatch on October 10.

The Mission watch runs on Google’s Android Wear platform and firmware from Qualcomm.

The brand, which markets itself primarily to outdoors types ranging from surfers to skiers, says The Mission is the world’s first ultra-rugged smartwatch, built to withstand an active lifestyle in the water, on the mountain and beyond.

The Mission comes with Google Fit, Google Maps, Google Now notifications, and the voice search and action capabilities as well as a suite of custom applications tailored to action sports and third party app compatibility.

Pairing this innovative software with an ultra-rugged, water-resistant design and standalone GPS allows individuals to enjoy The Mission’s technology and third party apps regardless of environment conditions.
Nixon will offer the watch on its own ecommerce website, which will encourage customers to tailor their watches using different options for the case, bezel, band, and face.

The price starts at €429 (£360).

It will also be available from launch at Snow & Rock Sports in the UK.

Two specific Nixon apps are the Mission app and the Mission Trace app. The Mission app gives live ocean and mountain conditions information, The Mission Trace app allows wearers to track sports sessions and view and share stats during activity.

The 48mm watch will need to be recharged daily.
