New team member for London Watch Show

By Jessica Knowles

WatchPro publisher ITP Promedia has welcomed Mike Viney, a recent graduate of Buckingham New University, to the ranks to work on the The London Watch Show.

Viney will work on building the online coverage of the London Watch Show through social media, building content via Facebook and Twitter sites and launching discussion topics and Q&A sessions online.

He will work closely with the London Watch Show team in the run up to the event, which takes place between July 2 and 3 at the Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden, London.

While simultaneously studying for his degree Viney has spent the past five years working in luxury watch retail at Signet Group and Swatch Group, and so brings a keen knowledge of the watch industry to the role.

He said: "I am delighted to be joining the London Watch Show team as we get ready to launch what will be a hugely important event for the UK watch industry.

"A dedicated watch trade show for UK retailers is long overdue and early conversations I’ve had with buyers have been overwhelmingly positive. I am now looking forward to working with the team to build the profile of the London Watch Show even more and make sure that everyone in the trade knows that it is an event not to be missed."

For his dissertation, Viney looked at the impact that social media has on the luxury brand market and is looking to use his knowledge to create a buzz online surrounding these two key watch industry events.

Viney says defining luxury was one the hardest parts of his research and he cites brands such as Rolex as fitting into the definition.“A luxury item therefore is one which is of desirability that’s been produced in its original origin of manufacture, carrying a relatively high level of price and quality – whilst providing the consumer with an ‘experience’ that is embodied within the product,”   he says.
