Michel Herbelin gives 30th anniversary Newport a stealth-like futuristic feel

French watchmaker Michel Herbelin has redesigned its signature Newport chronograph for its 30th anniversary year, adding a 43mm steel model with a Swiss-made Ronda quartz movement.

The watch goes on sale this month for around $1,000.

Newport has always been inspired by ship design, and the new model has been updated with a more stealth-like futuristic feel.

“This finely-tuned example of French watchmaking, complete with a new metal strap, stands out for its unmistakeable sleek design,” Michel Herbelin says.

Its stainless steel case and bezel has a three facet geometrical design that catches the light with a combination of brushed and polished finishes.

A sunray circular brushed dial turns from deep black on the outside to Newport blue at the centre and is arranged with a date at 4.30 and three counters in azure blue at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock displaying the small seconds, hours and 30 minutes respectively.
