Loomes made a Fellow of the BHI

Watchmaker Robert Loomes has been made a Fellow of the British Horological Institute.

The Stamford-based watchmaker was presented with the honorary award, one of the most prestigious the BHI can bestow on its members, for his exceptional service to the Institute and horology.

Loomes told WatchPro.com that he was still ‘reeling’ from the announcement and ‘hugely flattered’ to have been honoured by the BHI’s board of directors.

Loomes, a vocal member of the country’s horological community, produces the Robin and Robina collection of entirely English-made watches, which use 1950s Smiths movements that Loomes reworks and finishes in his workshop. Loomes is also the only watchmaker in the country to cut and polish its own sapphire crystal watch glass.

Robert Loomes began his watchmaking career as apprentice to his father Brian Loomes although the family’s horological roots date back to clock and watchmaker Thomas Loomes in mid 17th century London.
