London Watch Show builds powerful seminar schedule


The London Watch Show opens its doors to the UK watch industry this Sunday supported a programme of events, presentations, seminars and panel discussions.


Watch brands and supporting services will be showcasing the range of products they can offer to retailers for two days at London’s Freemasons’ Hall, with doors opening at 9am.


The content programme will begin with a watch servicing demonstration on Sunday morning when a watchmaker will reveal the processes behind a thorough watch service.

At 3pm on Sunday afternoon Anthony Cousins, managing director of Cousins UK, will join watchmaker Christian Danneman, otherwise known for his blog TheWatchGuy, to discuss the industry implications of restricted supply of spare parts from the big watch manufacturers.

Jonathan Hedges, of industry analysts GfK, will join us at 12noon on Monday for an overview of the current UK watch market. Hedges’ presentation will pinpoint consumer trends and decode recent sales figures, offering analysis that will prove vital to making commercial decisions in the months ahead.

Two hours later Robert Bray, of Sinclair Harding, Robert Loomes, of Loomes & Co, and Richard Hoptroff, of Hoptroff, figures already making clocks and watches in the UK, will discuss the possibilities of manufacturing horological products in the UK.

At 3.30pm members of the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad and a representative of retail security personnel specialists Elite Protection, will offer crime prevention advice to help tackle the very real problem of robberies targeting watch retailers. Detectives will discuss the impact of crime on the watch industry, measures that can taken to minimise a retailer’s chances of being targeted and how to react should you be caught up in the middle of a robbery.
