Kim Kardashian is suing British fast fashion and accessories business Missguided for $10 million.
American celebrity news site E! News obtained a copy of the lawsuit, which accuses Missguided of “blatant and willful violation of her statutory and common law rights of publicity.”
In her own Twitter feed, Ms Kardashian does not mention Missguided by name, but writes: “It’s devastating to see these fashion companies rip off designs that have taken the blood, sweat and tears of true designers who have put their all into their own original ideas. I’ve watched these companies profit off my husband’s work for years and now that it’s also affecting designers who have been so generous to give me access to their beautiful works, I can no longer sit silent.”
The legal filing states that: “Companies have sought out ways to leverage celebrity status and social media following without seeking her consent,” and have made her “an unwitting and unwilling spokesperson of their products.”
Missguided has a range of watches sold via its own website and through wholesale distribution. They are designed and made by Britain’s Inter City Group, a specialist in licensed watch brands.
The retailer’s website continued to feature Kim Kardashian on its site this morning, including the Gif shown at the top of this story.
A page headlined ‘crusin’ on kim k’ linked through to a “Shop Kim K” page, which appeared to have been removed.
