IWC welcomes Lewis Hamilton to HQ

By Hallie Engel

IWC brand ambassador Lewis Hamilton visited the Swiss watch manufacturer at its headquarters in Schaffhausen, where the Formula One driver learned about watchmaking, met IWC staff and journalists, and displayed his talents using a Formual One simulator.

Hamilton’s visit centred on the partnership between the team and the luxury watch manufacturer, which has been the official engineering partner of Mercedes AMG Petronas since the beginning of the year.

Speaking about his trip to the IWC headquarters, Hamilton said: “This visit to the company’s production facilities has impressed upon me the degree of pride, passion and commitment IWC’s specialists invest in their success. Only very gifted engineers and technicians with a total dedication to perfection could possibly develop watch movements at this level of precision and innovation. It’s the same passion that drives the development department of Mercedes AMG Petronas to build the perfect Formula 1 car.”

Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, added: “Lewis Hamilton is a very focused individual, who works incessantly at perfecting his strengths. For a driver as passionate about his work as Lewis, team spirit, perfection and precise timing are as much a part of his professional ethos as they are for IWC’s watch specialists. We are proud to number him among our Friends of the Brand. His fascination with technology and passion for design make him the ideal ambassador.”
